What does basic dental care involve?

Basic dental care is the foundation of all oral health. It covers all standard dental services, from preventive treatment to restorative procedures. At Dent Å, basic dental care includes regular dental check-ups, restorations, root canal treatment, tooth extractions and treatment of sudden problems in our emergency dental services..

During a dental check-up, we check the overall condition of your mouth: the condition of your teeth and gums, the health of your mucous membranes and the functioning of your bite. We use x-ray equipment to see any hidden problems between teeth and under old fillings.. Many dental problems develop slowly without symptoms, so regular check-ups are important for early detection of problems.

Who should get dental treatment?

Everyone needs dental care throughout life. It is particularly important to visit a dentist when you have symptoms in your mouth: toothache, bleeding gums, chips or other problems. We also treat patients who are afraid of dental treatment - tell us about your fear and we will take it into account in your treatment.

Why choose Dent Å?

Our broad dental team is made up of experts from different fields, so we can find the right person and solution for every patient. We can get you an appointment quickly - often even on the same day in acute situations.

Our on-call service is the most comprehensive in Turku: we are also open on weekends, holidays and public holidays without any extra on-call surcharges. This means that you only pay the normal procedure fee, no expensive surcharges. Our customer service team can make an urgent assessment over the phone and direct you to the right treatment.

Financial worries are no barrier to treatment: we offer up to 12 months interest-free payment for treatments (read more). We also help you apply for Kela benefits and prepare the necessary certificates for insurance companies. Our transparent pricing means that you can always get an estimate before treatment if you wish.

We are located in the centre of Turku with excellent transport connections.

Our basic dental services

Dental check-up - the foundation of oral health

Regular inspections every 1-2 years will reveal hidden problems in time. The check-up includes an examination of the teeth, gums and mucous membranes, a bite assessment and, if necessary, X-rays. You will receive a personalised treatment plan and guidance on home care. Kela will reimburse the check-up every two years unless the dentist has determined that there is a medical need for an annual check-up.

Emergency services – help for acute toothache

A sudden toothache or accident requires rapid treatment. In our emergency department, we treat urgent conditions: infections, chips, traumas and even the most severe aches and pains. If your toothache is accompanied by swelling or a tooth has come loose in an accident, seek treatment immediately. We are also available on weekends at no extra charge.

Fillings – fixing cavities and chips

We repair tooth damage with composite or ceramic fillings. Filling treatment is usually performed painlessly under local anaesthesia. The earlier the hole is patched, the smaller the operation.

Root canal treatment - saving a tooth

Root canal treatment may be necessary due to trauma or a deep cavity that has damaged the tooth's pulp.
Root canal treatment involves cleaning and disinfecting the tooth's core cavity and finally filling the root canals with root filling. Root canal treatment is performed under local anaesthesia.
A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment is always weaker than a healthy tooth. This is why we often recommend a ceramic filling or crown for the tooth to prevent it from chipping or cracking.

Tooth extraction

Sometimes a tooth is so badly damaged that it can no longer be repaired. Careful local anaesthesia ensures that tooth extraction is a completely painless procedure. The most common reasons for extraction are large chips, deep cavities, wisdom teeth or extractions required for orthodontic treatment. We provide clear aftercare instructions to ensure healing.

Treatment for people with fear

We understand that dental treatment can be stressful. We will discuss your fears and tailor treatment to your individual needs. We can use a relaxing pre-medication or perform more extensive treatments under anaesthesia. Our relaxed atmosphere and experienced staff will make your visit as comfortable as possible.

Frequently asked questions

For adults, a check-up every 1-2 years is usually sufficient, but individual needs vary. If you are prone to decay, gingivitis or other problems, we recommend more frequent visits. For children and adolescents, annual check-ups are recommended.

Take painkillers (ibuprofen or paracetamol) and book an appointment with the emergency room. If the pain is accompanied by swelling, fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing, seek treatment immediately. A cold pack on the cheek may help relieve swelling.

Yes, you will be reimbursed by Kela for dental check-ups, restorative treatment, root canal treatment and tooth extraction. The reimbursement is around 15-40% of the cost of the treatment, depending on the procedure.

Yes, we offer the possibility to treat teeth under anaesthesia, especially for patients with anxiety or for extensive procedures. Anaesthesia is well-suited to treating several teeth at once, for example. Talk to your dentist about anaesthesia options.

Good home care is the best prevention: brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean the spaces between your teeth daily. Avoid constant snacking and sugary drinks. Have regular dental check-ups and visits to an dental hygienist.
